Teaching guide

What children will practise

Write all seven days in order from Monday to Sunday from memory, and work out the day that comes between two given days.

What's in the worksheet

10 items, 20 points - Part A: write the days in train carriages numbered 1-7 (14 points), with no word bank - Part B: fill the gap in three short sequences (6 points): Tuesday - ? - Thursday, Friday - ? - Sunday and Sunday - ? - Tuesday - The answer key starts the week on Monday; Part B answers are Wednesday, Saturday and Monday

How to use it in class

Use near the end of the unit, once children can say the days and are starting to spell them unaided. Allow about 15 minutes. - Tell the class that carriage 1 is Monday before they start, so their answers line up with the key - Use the Sunday - ? - Tuesday item as a spoken follow-up (What day comes after Sunday?) to show that the week wraps round

Common sticking points

- Starting carriage 1 with Sunday, as Thai calendars often do, which shifts the whole row against the key - Dropping the d in Wednesday (Wenesday) - Writing Thursday as Thrusday - In Part B item 3, answering Saturday by looking for the day before Sunday rather than after it
