Curriculum indicators practised
Before you begin
Write ten direction phrases in full with no word bank, from pictures of roads, a zebra crossing, bridges and stairs, e.g. cross the street and go under the bridge.
10 items, 20 points (one section) - Three pictures carry road arrows: go straight, turn left (red) and turn right (blue) - Pictures with people or vehicles: a car at traffic lights (stop), a boy on a zebra crossing with a green walking man (cross the street), a boy climbing stairs (go upstairs) - Places with no one in them: a bakery (go past), a wooden footbridge (go over the bridge), a road tunnel under a bridge (go under the bridge) and a corner building (at the corner) - The key writes every phrase in full
Use as the last directions sheet, after matching and letter completion. Allow about 15 minutes. - Items 6 and 9 have no arrow or person, so tell children beforehand to write a direction phrase, not the name of the place - After marking, have children write 3-4 steps from the school gate to their home using phrases from this sheet
- Writing bakery or shop for item 6 instead of go past, since the picture is just a shop front - Writing library or building for item 9 instead of at the corner - Dropping the in cross the street, go over the bridge and at the corner - Spelling straight as strait or stright, and upstairs as upstair
