Teaching guide

What children will practise

Write the names of eight rooms and areas from a cut-away house picture without a word bank, then name the child's own favourite room.

What's in the worksheet

9 items, 12 points - Part A: a four-storey cut-away house with dotted lines from each room to a numbered box; write 8 names (8 points) - Part A key: bedroom, balcony, kitchen, bathroom, living room, dining room, garage and garden - Part B: complete ห้องที่ฉันชอบคือ ____ (My favourite room is ____) for 4 points; it is open, and the key's sample is bedroom. - No word bank

How to use it in class

Use as the last sheet in the house-and-rooms set, after the matching and missing-letter sheets. Allow about 15 minutes. - Before starting, point at rooms in the picture and ask What room is this?, answering orally before writing - Extend Part B into speaking: My favourite room is the kitchen because ..., with a partner asking What do you do there?

Common sticking points

- Item 2: the balcony sits upstairs next to the bedroom and has plants and flowers, so some children write garden - Writing living room and dining room as one word, e.g. livingroom - Dropping the t in kitchen (kichen) - In Part B, children may answer in Thai because the sentence starter is in Thai
