Science Teaching Media worksheets on Weather and Seasons for Grades 1–3 (P.1–P.3), difficulty 1/5. PDF, downloadable as soon as payment clears.
Before you begin
Observe and describe the weather around us (sun, cloud, rain, wind, temperature), meet simple weather tools, learn Thailand's three seasons, and choose clothes and items that suit the weather and season.
20 slides at a junior weather station, with Fah, Mek and a little cloud - Slides 1-10, weather: what weather is (circle the weather pictures among ten), a sky, cloud, sun, wind and rain observation log, the sun and what to take on a sunny day, fluffy white, dark grey and thin wispy clouds, rain and what to take on a rainy day, wind as moving air (test with a ribbon or pinwheel), temperature bands hot, warm, cool and cold and ordering hottest to coldest, tools (thermometer, rain gauge, windsock) and a weather-symbol sorting game - Slides 11-14, seasons: the hot, rainy and cool seasons, what the weather is like and how to look after yourself, and a three-season comparison chart with items to match - Slides 15-18, dressing for the weather: what to wear and not wear on a sunny, rainy and cold day, and reading a three-day forecast to choose items - Slides 19-20: a six-question review and a certificate - No separate answer slides, though slide 17 already ticks the answers
Use in a Year 1-2 weather unit over three lessons of about 30-40 minutes (slides 1-10, 11-14, 15-20). - Use slide 3 as a real log: take the class outside for five minutes each morning for a week to look at the sky and compare results, and do the ribbon test from slide 7 on the field - Before slides 13 and 17 point out that snow is not what a Thai cool season looks like and ask children what it is like at home, then follow up with the weather worksheet and the seasons worksheet
- Thinking every cloud brings rain, although fluffy white clouds usually mean fair weather and only dark grey ones suggest rain (slide 5 and question 2 on slide 19) - Thinking that because we cannot see wind there is none, rather than looking at leaves, flags and pinwheels (slide 7) - Seeing an umbrella only as rain gear, not knowing it also shades from the sun (slide 11 uses a sun umbrella) - Expecting snow in the Thai cool season because of the pictures in the media
