Match month numbers 1-12 to English month names from a lettered word bank, then write the missing month in short sequences.
16 items, 20 points - A word bank of the 12 months in jumbled order, lettered A-L (e.g. A. October, B. February, F. January) - Part A: write the letter in calendars numbered 1-12 (12 points) - Part B: write the missing month in 4 sequences (8 points): January - ? - March, May - ? - July, August - ? - October, October - ? - December - Part A key reads F B J D H L C K G A I E
Use early in the unit, when the month names are still new. Allow about 15 minutes. - Chant the months while counting 1-12 on fingers before starting - Follow up with When is your birthday? and have children point to their month in the word bank
- Writing month names instead of the letters A-L in Part A, which do not fit the boxes - Mixing up June and July, or March and May, because they start alike - Part B items 3 and 4 both use October, so some children write November in item 3 instead of September - Copying from the bank and dropping letters, e.g. Febuary
