Teaching guide

What children will practise

Look at each building and write the place name in full with no word bank, including the two-word bus station and tricky spellings such as library and museum.

What's in the worksheet

10 questions, 20 points (Section A, Write the place name) - Key answers: airport, bakery, bus station, cafe, cinema, hospital, library, market, museum, playground - The pictures match the vowel sheet, but hotel and pharmacy are replaced by hospital and library - No word bank and no letter clues - A separate answer key writes each word on the line with a tick

How to use it in class

Use at the end of the places in town unit, after the matching and vowel sheets. Allow about 15 minutes. - Use it as a spelling check, and agree beforehand whether coffee shop, movie theatre or bus stop earn the marks - After marking, children draw a small town map with five places from the sheet and describe it to a partner: The bakery is next to the cafe.

Common sticking points

- Dropping the first r in library: libary - Spelling museum as musium or museam - Writing bus stop for bus station in item 3, or coffee shop for cafe in item 4 - The library in item 7 and the museum in item 9 have similar fronts, so they may be swapped; the book and the vase on the gables are the clue
