What children will practise

Match eight pictures to the four season words (spring, summer, autumn, winter) and to things linked with each season, such as snowman, pumpkin, beach and flowers.

What's in the worksheet

8 items, 20 points - An eight-word bank, A-H, every word used once: winter, flowers, summer, pumpkin, autumn, snowman, spring and beach - Four season pictures: an orange-leaved tree (autumn), a snowy fir (winter), a pink blossom tree (spring) and a sun (summer) - Four object pictures: a beach umbrella (beach), a snowman, tulips (flowers) and a pumpkin - Key: 1 E, 2 H, 3 G, 4 F, 5 A, 6 B, 7 C, 8 D; a separate answer key is included

How to use it in class

Use as the first sheet of a four-seasons unit. Allow about 10 minutes. - Before starting, explain that these four seasons belong to temperate countries, unlike Thailand's hot, rainy and cool seasons, and ask what the weather is like in each picture - After marking, pair the four object pictures with a season, e.g. snowman - winter, pumpkin - autumn, and say it as a sentence: In winter, I see a snowman.

Common sticking points

- Items 3 and 6: swapping spring and flowers, since both pictures show flowers - Item 5, the snowy fir: choosing snowman because of the snow, which then pushes winter onto item 4 - Items 2 and 7: swapping beach and summer - Item 1: Thai children rarely see leaves change colour, so the orange tree is not recognised as autumn
