Curriculum indicators practised
Before you begin
Practise spelling eight shape words by choosing the missing letter, then pick out the correct spelling from near-miss versions.
12 items, 20 points - Part A: choose the missing letter from three, 8 items (16 points): cir_le, squ_re, tri_ngle, rec_angle, o_al, dia_ond, st_r, he_rt - Part B: choose the correct spelling, 4 items (4 points), e.g. circel / circle / circl and dimond / diamond / diamand - Part A options are printed as capitals, e.g. C S K, F V B - A separate key rings each answer in green
Use after the shape matching sheet, once children can name the shapes aloud. Allow about 10-15 minutes. - Before starting, say each word slowly and clap the syllables, tri-an-gle, rec-tan-gle, so the missing sound is easier to hear - After marking, children write any word they got wrong on a coloured paper cut-out of that shape for a class display
- A1: choosing S or K in cir_le, since the first c sounds like s and the second like k - A5: choosing F or B for the v in oval, a sound Thai does not have - Reversing the final le to el: circel, triangel (Part B distractors) - Dropping the a in diamond (dimond), writing diamand, or swapping the ua in square (sqaure)
