Teaching guide

What children will practise

Write eight sports words from pictures with no word bank, then name and draw a favourite sport.

What's in the worksheet

12 points - Part A: write the word for 8 pictures (8 points): football, basketball, tennis, badminton, swimming, cycling, running and volleyball - Part B: complete 'My favourite sport is ...' (prompt in Thai) and draw it (4 points) - The answer key lists Part A and gives football as a sample Part B answer

How to use it in class

Use at the end of a sports unit, once children can say the words. Allow 15-20 minutes including drawing. - Warm up with mime: hit a shuttlecock, swim, pedal, and let children shout the word - Use the Part B drawings for a short I like ... talk, or a class survey of favourite sports

Common sticking points

- Mixing up picture 3 (tennis) and picture 4 (badminton), since both show a racket; point to the shuttlecock - Spelling badminton as badmington and volleyball as valleyball - Forgetting the double consonant: swiming, runing - Writing soccer, bike or run instead of the key's words; decide beforehand whether these earn the point
