How to use it in class

Use after teaching the two hands and It's ... o'clock. Allow about 10 minutes. - Before starting, get children to notice the long hand is on 12 every time, so only the short hand matters - Follow up in pairs: one child sets a paper clock, the other answers What time is it?

Common sticking points

- Reading the opposite side of the dial, e.g. nine when the hand points to 3 (a Part B option) - Answering one in Part B item 3 by looking at the long hand rather than the short hand on 9 - In Part A item 3 the short hand on 1 sits close to 12, so some children read twelve - Confusing the hour and minute hands
