Teaching guide

What children will practise

Read o'clock times from 1 to 12 on clock faces and spell the time words, by choosing the missing letter and the correct spelling.

What's in the worksheet

12 items, 20 points - Part A: choose the missing letter for one to eight o'clock (16 points), e.g. t_o (o, w, a), fi_e (b, v, f), ei_ht (t, g, k) - Part B: pick the correct spelling for 9-12 o'clock (4 points), e.g. nine/nein/nien, elaven/eleven/elefan, twelf/twalve/twelve - The key circles every correct option

How to use it in class

Use once children can read the hour hand. Allow about 15 minutes. - Warm up with a card clock: move the hand and have the class say It's ... o'clock - In Part B, have children read the wrong options aloud and explain why twelf is not right

Common sticking points

- Writing too for two by choosing o instead of w in item 2 - Using f or b instead of v in five and seven - Spelling eleven as elaven or elefan, and twelve as twelf or twalve, as in the Part B distractors - Reordering nine as nien
