Use once children can read o'clock and half past. Allow about 15-20 minutes. - Turn the hands on a demonstration clock to show that at 45 minutes the hour hand is nearly at the next number - For questions 8 and 9, have partners explain why the hour hand is close to 9 or 12 but the time is not 9 or 12 o'clock
- On quarter-to times, taking the hour from the number the hour hand is nearest, e.g. 9:45 for question 8 and 12:45 for question 9 - Reading the number the minute hand points to as the minutes, so 3 minutes instead of 15 - Swapping the hour and minute hands, giving times such as 3:05 for 1:15
