Teaching guide

What children will practise

Write ten travel words from pictures with no word bank, especially the harder spellings suitcase, passport and airplane.

What's in the worksheet

10 items, 20 points - Write the word on the line under each picture; no word bank - Key answers: suitcase, passport, beach, train, airplane, taxi, ticket, hotel, camera and map - The same ten words as the travel matching sheet (VOC-41-B2-1), reordered and redrawn - A separate key writes each word on the line

How to use it in class

Use after the travel matching sheet, as it uses the same words. Allow about 15 minutes. - Before starting, have pairs cover the matching sheet's word bank and spell suitcase, passport and airplane aloud - After marking, ask children to write a packing list for a beach trip in a sentence, e.g. I need a suitcase, a camera and a map.

Common sticking points

- Item 1: spelling suitcase as suitcace or sutecase - Item 5: writing plane or aeroplane, both valid, so decide the marking rule in advance; airplane also loses its i as arplane - Item 3: writing sea instead of beach, since the sea dominates the picture - Item 7: writing boarding pass or plane ticket; decide whether to accept them
