Before you begin
Choose the missing letter from three to spell eight weather words such as warm, lightning, thunder and umbrella.
8 items; the sheet prints a total of 20 - Words: _arm (w/a/m), c_ol (a/o/u), _ightning (l/r/b), th_nder (a/e/u), snow_an (n/r/m), umb_ella (r/n/l), su_ny (m/n/l), f_ggy (a/e/o) - Missing letters fall at the start, the middle, or in a double letter, such as the second n in sunny - Two words, snowman and umbrella, are weather-related objects rather than weather words - A separate key shades the answer circles green
Use after the weather matching sheet. Allow about 10 minutes. - Before starting, have children name all eight pictures, as some could suggest more than one word, e.g. the wind picture in item 2 and the sun in item 1 - After marking, ask children to write all eight words in full from memory with the sheet covered, then move on to the weather write-the-words sheet
- Item 2 c_ol: the picture shows wind and leaves, so children may think of windy and guess - Item 4 th_nder: choosing a because the vowel sounds like Thai อะ - Item 8 f_ggy: choosing a because the vowel sounds open - Item 3: choosing r, as Thai learners often confuse l and r
