How to use it in class

Use once children add within 10 confidently, to practise pairs that make ten. 5 minutes. - Before playing, hold up 6 fingers and ask "How many more to make ten?" - Play as a class on the screen; children show the answer on fingers together, then tap it - After question 6, point out that 6 + 4 and 4 + 6 are the same pair - If many miss the a + ? form, use a ten-frame and fill the empty boxes - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Answering with a total, or adding the visible numbers, instead of finding what is missing, because the ? is not yet understood - In questions 1 and 6, choosing 5 out of habit from 5 + 5 - In question 5, choosing 0, thinking 9 is so close to 10 that nothing is needed
