What children will practise

Compare two numbers as greater or less, say how much greater or less one is, and compare quantities in everyday situations, in line with indicator ค 1.1 ป.1/2.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options each - Which group has more than 5: 7 things - How much greater is 6 than 4: 2 - How much less is 8 than 10: 2 - 5 apples and 3 oranges, which are more: apples - 4 pencils and 4 pens: the same

How to use it in class

Use after teaching comparison by one-to-one matching. 5 minutes. - For questions 2 and 3, children lay out two rows of counters, pair them, and count the ones without a partner - Play in pairs: one lays out counters, the other taps the answer - If many miss question 3, ask "How many more does 8 need to make 10?" - Play it linked to a class and the scores go into the class gradebook.

Common sticking points

- In questions 2 and 3, reaching for the larger number instead of the difference; those numbers are not offered, so children guess the nearest - In question 3, confused because how much less uses subtraction just like how much more - In question 6, choosing more pencils because pencils look longer than pens
