Sample questions

A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.

  1. Sort the solids into groups.

    Sort into

    • all flat faces
    • has a curved surface
    • cube
    • sphere
    • pyramid
    • cylinder
    Read the explanation

Solids with only flat faces, and solids with a curved surface.

  2. Sort the formulas into groups.

    Sort into

    • for two-dimensional shapes
    • for three-dimensional solids
    • base × height ÷ 2
    • width × length × height
    • 2 × pi × radius
    • side × side × side
    Read the explanation

Formulas for two-dimensional shapes and formulas for three-dimensional ones.

  3. Sort the numbers into groups.

    Sort into

    • positive
    • negative
    • 12
    • -12
    • 0.5
    • -0.5
    Read the explanation

Negative numbers sit to the left of zero on the number line.

What children will practise

Classify solids with all flat faces versus a curved surface (ค 2.2 ป.6/3), 2D versus 3D formulas, positive versus negative numbers, and probability versus statistics questions.

What's in the worksheet

4 sorting rounds, dragging 4 cards into 2 groups - All flat faces or a curved surface: cube, sphere, pyramid, cylinder - 2D or 3D formula: base × height ÷ 2, width × length × height, 2 × pi × radius, side × side × side - Positive or negative: 12, -12, 0.5, -0.5 - Probability or statistics: chance of a 6, mean of scores, chance of a red ball, mode of data

How to use it in class

Use as the last review game of the year across several units; about 5 minutes. - Play in teams with real objects (a box, a ball, a can) to handle for round 1 - In round 2, have teams say what each formula finds before deciding 2D or 3D - In round 4, point out that the word chance signals probability - Some items extend beyond primary indicators. Use them for discussion or preparation for Grade 7, not to judge attainment - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Round 1: the cylinder may go in the all-flat group because it has 2 flat circular faces - Round 2: 2 × pi × radius may go under 3D because the circle formula is unfamiliar - Round 3: -0.5 may be thought positive because it is close to zero
