This set has 6 questions in an interactive multiple choice activity.

A look before you play

Sample questions

A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.

  1. Rolling one dice - what is the probability of a 3?

    • 1/6
    • 1/3
    • 1/2
    Read the explanation

A dice has six faces and only one of them is a three.

  2. Tossing a coin - what is the probability of tails?

    • 1
    • 1/2
    • 1/4
    Read the explanation

A coin has two sides, equally likely.

  3. Rolling a dice - what is the probability of an even number?

    • 1/3
    • 1/6
    • 1/2
    Read the explanation

Two, four and six are even - three of six faces, which simplifies to a half.

What children will practise

Find simple probabilities from dice, coins and drawing balls, write them as fractions, and know a certain event is 1 and an impossible one is 0.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with 3 options - Probability of a 3 on one die (1/6) - Probability of an even number (1/2) - A bag of 3 red and 2 blue balls: probability of red (3/5) - Probability of a certain event (1) - Probability of an impossible event (0)

How to use it in class

Use as enrichment after children have tossed coins and rolled dice; about 5 minutes. - Play in teams with a real bag of coloured balls for Q4 - For Q3, have teams list the even numbers 2, 4, 6 before counting - For Q5 and Q6, ask children for their own certain and impossible events - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Q4: comparing red with blue (3/2) or choosing 2/5 instead of comparing with all 5 balls - Q3: counting 3 even faces and choosing 1/3, forgetting there are 6 faces - Q1: 1/3 chosen because 3 appears in the question - Q5 and Q6: 0 and 1 swapped
