What children will practise

A six-topic Grade 1 science review: a living thing, the leaf making food, smelling with the nose, a bird flying, the heart pumping and how shadows form. Tagged ว 1.1 ป.1/1 and also covers ว 1.2 ป.1/1 (parts of humans, animals and plants).

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with three options each - The living thing: a tree (distractors a rock, a chair) - The part of a plant that makes food: leaves - We smell with our nose; the animal that can fly is a bird - A shadow comes from something blocking the light

How to use it in class

A short end-of-first-term game for Grade 1, about 4-5 minutes. Read each question aloud; solo play shows which topics each child holds loosely. For question 2, bring a potted plant and point to its leaves. After question 6, make hand shadows on the wall. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook, then revisit the most-missed topic with that topic's own set. The in-game explanation for question 2 uses the word chlorophyll, which is beyond Grade 1; you can simply call it the green in the leaf that uses sunlight to make food.

Common sticking points

- Question 2: choosing roots, knowing roots take up water and thinking water is the plant's food. Separate them: roots find water, leaves make food. - Question 6: choosing no light at all, thinking a shadow is just a dark place. Try making a shadow in a fully dark room. - Question 3: choosing tongue, mixing up smell and taste. Have children pinch their nose and try to smell a flower.
