Sample questions

A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.

  1. Put the steps of the scientific method in order.

    • draw a conclusion
    • experiment and collect data
    • form a hypothesis
    • observe and ask a question
    Read the explanation

You have to observe and ask a question before you can experiment.

  2. Put the planets in order from the sun.

    • Mars
    • Mercury
    • The earth
    • Venus
    Read the explanation

The first four are the rocky planets closest to the sun.

  3. Put the steps that make rain in order.

    • it condenses into clouds
    • it falls as rain
    • the vapour rises
    • water evaporates
    Read the explanation

Water evaporates, condenses into clouds until they are heavy, then falls.

What children will practise

Orders four sequences: the steps of the scientific method, the first four planets from the Sun, how rain forms, and the path of food through the gut. Question 2 matches indicator ว 3.1 ป.4/3 (modelling the solar system), a Grade 4 topic; rain and digestion are Grade 5 and 6 content, so the set works as an early introduction.

What's in the worksheet

4 questions, an ordering game with four pieces each - observe and ask > form a hypothesis > experiment and collect data > conclude - Mercury > Venus > Earth > Mars - water evaporates > vapour rises > condenses into clouds > falls as rain - mouth > oesophagus > stomach > intestines

How to use it in class

An end-of-term review, about 5 minutes in teams. Before question 2, make up a memory line for Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars. For question 4, have children trace the path on their own body from mouth to belly. In question 1 you may need to explain สมมติฐาน (hypothesis) as the answer you guess in advance. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Question 2: swapping Venus and Mars, having heard both are Earth's neighbours. Show an ordered picture of the solar system. - Question 1: swapping hypothesis and experiment because the word สมมติฐาน is unfamiliar. - Question 4: putting the stomach before the oesophagus, not knowing a tube links mouth and stomach. Have children swallow water and notice the feeling in the throat.
