Teaching guide

What children will practise

Match ten pictures of clothes and accessories to their English words by writing the word's letter in the box.

What's in the worksheet

10 questions, 20 points - Word bank A-J: dress, scarf, shoes, trousers, cap, gloves, jacket, belt, sweater and skirt - 10 pictures, including a red scarf, a varsity-style jacket, a pink pleated skirt and a baseball cap - There are exactly as many words as pictures, with no spare distractors - A separate answer key is included

How to use it in class

Use as the first sheet of a clothes unit, after introducing the words with real items or picture cards. Allow about 10 minutes. - Warm up by pointing at what classmates are wearing and having children name it - Once matching is secure, move on to the look-and-write clothes sheet in the same topic

Common sticking points

- jacket and sweater are easily confused, as both are long-sleeved tops - The picture in item 5 is a pair of jeans; some children look for jeans, which is not in the bank, so explain that trousers covers it - With no spare words, one wrong match always causes a second; have children cross off each word as they use it
