Before you begin

Teaching guide

What children will practise

Read ten questions or greetings from classmates and pick the right response card, e.g. What class are you in? with I am in Class 2.

What's in the worksheet

10 items, 20 points - Ten response cards A-J, e.g. I am eight years old., My name is Ben., I am from Thailand., I like drawing. and Yes, I am. - Section A: write the letter of the card that answers each line, such as Are you a student?, What do you like? and See you tomorrow! - There are exactly ten cards for ten items, each used once - The key reads E C B A D J G I F H; a Let's reflect box is not scored

How to use it in class

Use after the introductions dialogue sheet, as this one adds questions such as What class are you in? and What do you like?. Allow about 10-15 minutes. - Before starting, read each question aloud and have children answer with their own real details - In items 2 and 9, accept either name-introduction card: My name is Ben. and I am May. both answer a question about someone's name - After marking, children write four response cards about themselves (name, age, class, a like) and interview a partner

Common sticking points

- Items 2 (What is your name?) and 9 (Who are you?) can each take card C (My name is Ben.) or F (I am May.), so children often swap them - Item 10 See you tomorrow!: choosing E Hello!, not recognising a goodbye - Item 6 Are you a student?: missing J Yes, I am. because short yes/no answers are unfamiliar - Item 8: confusing What do you like? with What class are you in?
