What children will practise

Photosynthesis: the leaf as the food factory, chlorophyll, the gas used and the gas given off, when plants can make food, and forests' role for the air. Matches ว 1.2 ป.4/1, describing the job of the leaf in flowering plants.

What's in the worksheet

6 questions, multiple choice with three options each - Plants make food in the leaves; the green substance is chlorophyll - Plants use carbon dioxide (distractor: carbon monoxide) - Plants give off oxygen and make food when there is light - Forests take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen

How to use it in class

Use it after covering part of a leaf with foil, or watching gas bubbles rise from water weed, about 5 minutes, solo. In question 3, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide look very alike, so write both on the board before playing. Question 6 leads into planting trees at school. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Question 3: choosing carbon monoxide because the name is so similar. Point out that ได (di) means two. - Question 6: choosing take in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide, confusing it with human breathing. Draw in and out arrows for a person and a tree side by side. - Question 5: choosing equally at all times, thinking plants work day and night. Separate them: plants breathe all the time but make food only in light.
