What children will practise

Observes familiar animals four ways: how they move, where they live, how many legs they have and the sounds they make. Question 2 fits ว 1.1 ป.1/2 (habitats suited to animals); the rest links to ว 1.2 ป.1/1 (body parts of animals).

What's in the worksheet

4 questions, a matching game with four pairs each - Match a snake to slithers and a rabbit to hops - Match a fish to in water and a cow to on grassland - Match a spider to 8 legs and a snake to no legs - Match a cow to moos and a chicken to crows

How to use it in class

A good opener for a Grade 1 animals lesson, about 5-7 minutes. Play in teams with the teacher reading each question aloud, since some children are not yet fluent readers. Have children act out the movement or make the animal's sound before tapping. For question 3, show a picture of a spider and count its legs together. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Question 3: matching the spider to 4 legs, or thinking it has 6 like an insect. Count the legs on a real picture. - Question 2: swapping bird and ant, because birds live in nests too. Accept that birds build nests in trees, and explain that the game pairs the bird with in trees. - Question 4: matching the chicken to moos because they do not know the word ขัน. Do the rooster's crow for them.
