Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Orders food chains in a grassland, in water and in a garden, and orders the roles of producer, consumers and decomposer. It matches indicator ว 1.1 ป.5/3 (writing food chains and naming producers and consumers), a Grade 5 topic.

What's in the worksheet

4 questions, an ordering game with four pieces each - grass > grasshopper > frog > snake - phytoplankton > zooplankton > small fish > large fish - leaf > caterpillar > bird > hawk - producer > primary consumer > secondary consumer > decomposer

How to use it in class

Use it after teaching food chains and before children write a chain from a local garden or rice field, about 5 minutes in teams. After each question, ask the team why the first piece is the producer. In question 2, explain that phytoplankton are tiny plants in water. After question 4, add that decomposers break down remains from every level, not just after the secondary consumer. You can link it to a class and record it in the gradebook.

Common sticking points

- Question 2: swapping phytoplankton and zooplankton, unsure which eats which. Point to the word พืช (plant) as the clue to the producer. - Question 1: swapping frog and snake, having seen big frogs. Ask who eats whom. - Question 4: unsure where to put the decomposer because it does not eat in a chain. Explain that the game places it last, though in nature it breaks down remains at every level.
