Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Practise fruit and vegetable words found in Thailand (banana, mango, orange, apple, carrot, tomato, cabbage, onion), match fruit to colours, and learn food words (eat, drink, sweet, fresh).

What's in the worksheet

4 matching rounds of 4 pairs each - Fruit: banana, mango, orange, apple with their meanings - Vegetables: carrot, tomato, cabbage, onion with their meanings - Fruit to colour: banana with yellow, grape with purple - eat, drink, sweet and fresh with their meanings

How to use it in class

Use in a food unit with real or toy fruit to show; about 4 minutes. - Play as a class on the projector and hold up the real fruit before each pair - In round 3, orange-orange may puzzle children; explain it is both a fruit and a colour - In round 2, chat about which vegetables children eat - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Round 3: orange with orange is the same word, so children may suspect a trick and mismatch - Round 3: apple with red may cause hesitation for children who know green apples - Round 2: cabbage and onion are new words and may be swapped
