What children will practise

Practise the order of the English alphabet at the start (A-H) and end (W-Z), and the number words one to four, linked to ต 1.1 ป.1/2 on recognising letters and sounds.

What's in the worksheet

4 ordering rounds of 4 cards - A, B, C, D - E, F, G, H - W, X, Y, Z - one, two, three, four

How to use it in class

Use after singing the ABC song, as a short lesson opener; about 3-4 minutes. - Play as a class on the projector and have everyone sing the ABC song slowly while a child drags the cards - If many get round 3 wrong, sing the W X Y and Z ending twice - For round 4, hold up fingers while saying one two three four - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Round 3: X and Y are often swapped, being letters children rarely see - Round 2: F and G may be swapped when the song is sung too fast to hear clearly - Round 1: B and D both have a rounded right side, so children still confusing them may misplace D
