Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Practise basic colour words (red, blue, green, yellow, black, white, pink, orange, brown), match colours to things of that colour, and learn colour, light and dark.

What's in the worksheet

4 matching rounds of 4 pairs each - red, blue, green and yellow with their meanings - black, white, pink and orange with their meanings - green with leaf, yellow with banana, blue with sky, red with apple - colour, light, dark and brown with their meanings

How to use it in class

Use after a colour hunt around the classroom; about 4 minutes. - Play as a class on the projector and have children hold up the crayon for each word before dragging - In round 3, ask for other things of each colour - In round 4, use light blue and dark blue crayons to explain light and dark - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Round 1: Thai separates ฟ้า (light blue) from น้ำเงิน (dark blue), so children may hesitate when blue is glossed as น้ำเงิน - Round 2: pink and orange are learnt later and may be swapped - Round 4: light and dark are abstract and may be swapped
