Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Practise family words (father, mother, brother, sister, grandfather, grandmother), sort them by gender and generation, and review body-part and school words.

What's in the worksheet

4 sorting rounds, dragging 4 cards into 2 groups - Male or female: father, mother, brother, sister - Parents' or grandparents' generation: father, grandfather, mother, grandmother - On the face or not: eye, hand, nose, foot - In the bag or in the classroom: pencil, whiteboard, book, door

How to use it in class

Use after children have drawn or talked about their own family; about 4 minutes. - Play as a class on the projector and have children count family members on their fingers as words come up - In round 2, point out that grand in front means the grandparents' generation - Rounds 3 and 4 review other units; tell children first that they are not about family - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Round 1: brother and sister swapped, as Thai uses พี่น้อง for both - Round 2: grandfather may go with parents because it contains father - Round 4: whiteboard is a long word children may not read
