What children will practise

Link letters to the first sound of a word (A apple, B ball, F fish, S sun) and hear final sounds (cat t, book k), matching ต 1.1 ป.1/2 on letters and sounds.

What's in the worksheet

4 matching rounds of 4 pairs each - A with apple, C with cat, D with dog - E with egg, G with girl, H with hat - M with moon, T with tree, W with water - Final letter: dog with g, sun with n, book with k

How to use it in class

Use after practising letter sounds with a phonics song; about 4-5 minutes. - Play as a class on the projector and say each word slowly so the first sound is clear, e.g. /f/ fish - Warn before round 4 that it is the last sound this time, not the first - Ask for other words starting with the same letter - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Round 4: children match by first sound instead of last, look for d for dog and cannot find it - Round 1: C and cat may confuse because the letter name (see) does not match the /k/ sound - Round 2: G and girl: the letter name (jee) does not match /g/ - Round 3: the name double-you gives no clue to the /w/ sound
