Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Practise toy words (ball, doll, car, kite), match verbs to what goes with them (kick a ball, fly a kite, ride a bicycle), learn words for playing with friends (play, share, win, friend), and review numbers 1-4.

What's in the worksheet

4 matching rounds of 4 pairs each - ball, doll, car and kite with their meanings - kick with ball, fly with kite, ride with bicycle, draw with picture - play, share, win and friend with their meanings - 1 to 4 with one to four

How to use it in class

Use after children have brought a toy to show; about 4 minutes. - Play in teams; in round 2 have teams mime kicking, flying, riding and drawing - In round 3, talk about sharing toys with friends - Round 4 reviews numbers; tell children it is not about toys - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Round 2: fly may be paired with bicycle by children who know fly only as what birds do - Round 1: car glossed as รถของเล่น (toy car) may puzzle children who know car as a real car - Round 3: share and play may be swapped, both about playing with friends
