A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.
Weather words a young child can use.
Linking a word to a real object makes it stick.
Words for what you see in the sky - learn them as a set and they come to mind together.
Before you play
Practise simple weather words (hot, cold, rain, sun), match weather to what you use (rain-umbrella, cold-jacket), name things in the sky, and pair opposites (wet-dry, light-dark).
4 matching rounds of 4 pairs each - hot, cold, rain and sun with their meanings - rain with umbrella, sun with hat, cold with jacket, wind with kite - sky, cloud, moon and star with their meanings - Opposites: hot-cold, day-night, wet-dry, light-dark
Use at the start of a lesson after looking out of the window and asking How is the weather today?; about 4 minutes. - Play as a class on the projector; in round 2 have children mime opening an umbrella or putting on a jacket - In round 3, draw day and night skies on the board and point to each thing - In round 4, let children touch a wet and a dry cloth - Use Thai mode: English mode repeats both sides, so children can match without reading the meaning - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.
- Round 2: wind/kite and sun/hat may be swapped, since a sunny day is also kite weather - Round 4: wet and dry are new words and may be swapped - Round 1: cold is glossed หนาว, though Thai children may know it as เย็น
