A look before you play
A few real prompts from the game to help you choose an activity for your class.
The jobs children see in their community every day.
Knowing what each job does makes the word stick.
The tool gives the job away at once.
Before you play
Read job names, link jobs to what they do and their tools (doctor to stethoscope), and ask and answer What does he do? / What do you want to be? (indicator ต 1.1 ป.3/2).
4 questions, matching 4 pairs each - farmer to ชาวนา, driver to คนขับรถ - cook to makes food, doctor to helps sick people - doctor to stethoscope, farmer to tractor - What do you want to be? to I want to be a pilot.
Use before a When I grow up activity, about 6 minutes, in teams; then each child answers What do you want to be? for real. - For Q3, show a toy stethoscope or a pan to make the words stick - After Q4, practise What does your mother do?; children who prefer not to talk about family can describe someone else they know - Use Thai mode: English mode repeats both sides in Q1, so children can match without reading the meaning - Play it linked to your class so scores go into the gradebook
- stethoscope (Q3) is long and hard to read; children may match it by elimination without being able to say it. Practise reading it afterwards - What does he do? (Q4) may be read as what is he doing now. Explain it asks about a job - cook (Q2): some only know it as a verb, not as a job
