What children will practise

Tell the time in English with o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to, understand past, to, quarter and half, and link times to routines, so children can follow instructions that give a time (indicator ต 1.1 ป.4/1).

What's in the worksheet

4 questions, matching 4 pairs each - 9:00 to nine o'clock, 11:00 to eleven o'clock - 2:30 to half past two, 8:15 to quarter past eight, 6:45 to quarter to seven - to to minutes to the hour, quarter to fifteen minutes - lunch to 12:00 at noon, bedtime to 9:00 at night

How to use it in class

Pair with a model clock, about 6 minutes, whole class. Before Q2, set the hands to 6:45 and show there are fifteen minutes to seven. - Q3 explains the words Q2 needs; if time allows, discuss Q3 first - Afterwards, ask What time do you go to bed? and have children answer with the new forms - Play it linked to your class so scores go into the gradebook

Common sticking points

- 6:45 and quarter to seven (Q2): children expect six because they see 6, but the answer says seven - past and to (Q3) get swapped, small words with opposite meanings - quarter and half (Q3) get swapped by children who cannot yet picture the clock face in quarters
