What children will practise

Practise the past simple: regular played and irregular went, did and saw, were with plural subjects, and did not followed by the plain verb, so pupils can tell what happened (ต 1.2 ป.5/1).

What's in the worksheet

6 multiple-choice items - Yesterday I ___ to the market. (went) - We ___ football last Sunday. (played) - He ___ a big fish. options saw / seen / see - They ___ happy at the party. (were) - I ___ not go to school yesterday. (did)

How to use it in class

Use once pupils know the first batch of past forms, 5 minutes, solo or team. - Before playing, chant go went, do did, see saw, play played - After He ___ a big fish., have pupils say what they saw yesterday: I saw ... - If item 6 goes wrong, write did not + plain verb on the board Play it linked to a class and the results go into the mark book.

Common sticking points

- He ___ a big fish.: choosing seen because it appears in the verb table; seen needs has or have - He ___ a big fish. has no time word, so some hesitate; see is wrong with he, which leaves saw - I ___ not go: choosing do without noticing yesterday
