What children will practise

Practise -ing forms used as nouns: as a subject (Reading is ...), after enjoy and finish, and after a preposition (good at), contrasted with want and decide, which take to (ต 1.2 ป.6/1).

What's in the worksheet

6 multiple-choice items - ___ is my favourite hobby. (Reading) - I enjoy ___ music. (listening) - She is good at ___. options to swim / have swum / swimming - I want ___ a doctor. (to be) - He decided ___ home. (to go)

How to use it in class

Use after lessons on hobbies and dream jobs, 5 minutes in solo mode. - Draw two columns: enjoy, finish, good at + -ing and want, decide + to - After item 5, pupils say their own I want to be ... and I enjoy ... - If good at trips many up, explain that at, in and of are followed by -ing Play it linked to a class and the results go into the mark book.

Common sticking points

- She is good at ___.: choosing to swim because a second verb usually has to; at is a preposition, so swimming - He decided ___ home.: choosing going because it sounds like an ongoing action - ___ is my favourite hobby.: choosing Read, not knowing a verb becomes a subject by adding -ing
