What children will practise

Practise relative words: who for people, which for things, where for places, whose for possession, when for time words, and that for both people and things.

What's in the worksheet

6 multiple-choice items - The man ___ lives next door is a doctor. (who) - This is the school ___ I study. (where) - The girl ___ bag is red is my friend. (whose) - Which word can describe both people and things: which / that / who - I remember the day ___ we met. (when)

How to use it in class

Use after teaching who and which clauses, 5 minutes in solo mode. - Chart noun type against relative word: person who, thing which, place where, time when, owner whose - After the game, play a riddle round: It is a person who ... / It is a place where ... Play it linked to a class and the results go into the mark book.

Common sticking points

- This is the school ___ I study.: choosing which because a school is a thing; the clause I study is missing where - The girl ___ bag is red: choosing who because a girl is a person; the next word, bag, is something she owns - I remember the day ___ we met.: choosing which, treating day as a thing
