Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Read food and taste words, put foods into groups (fruit, vegetable, meat, drink) and match restaurant phrases such as I would like rice. and How much is it? to their use (indicator ต 1.1 ป.4/2).

What's in the worksheet

4 questions, matching 4 pairs each - noodles to ก๋วยเตี๋ยว, salad to สลัด - sour to เปรี้ยว, spicy to เผ็ด - I would like rice. to ordering food, How much is it? to asking the price - carrot to vegetable, milk to drink

How to use it in class

Use before a restaurant role-play, about 5 minutes, in pairs. After Q3, pairs play seller and customer straight away using all four phrases. - After Q2, children describe a Thai dish they like: Som tam is spicy and sour. - Use Thai mode: English mode shows the same word on both sides in Q1 and Q2 - Play it linked to your class so scores go into the gradebook

Common sticking points

- sour and salty (Q2) get swapped, both starting with s. Think of lime and salt - It is delicious. and No, thank you. (Q3): some match No, thank you. with praising the food because of thank you - soup and salad (Q1) may be swapped by children unfamiliar with Western dishes
