What children will practise

Sort food, action and place words: things to eat versus drink, naming words versus action words, things inside versus outside the house, and number words below or above ten.

What's in the worksheet

4 sorting rounds, dragging 4 cards into 2 groups - Eat or drink: rice, water, egg, milk - Names a thing or an action: book, run, chair, jump - Inside or outside the house: bed, tree, table, road - Less or more than ten: five, twelve, three, twenty

How to use it in class

Use as an end-of-unit vocabulary review; about 4-5 minutes. - Play in teams; in round 2, if the team can act it out it is an action, if they can point to it it is a thing - In round 4, count fingers to ten first, then ask whether twelve and twenty are more than ten - In round 1, mime eating or drinking for each word - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Round 4: twelve and twenty are new to Grade 1 and both start with tw - Round 1: milk may go under eat, because Thai children say กินนม (eat milk) - Round 2: telling naming words from action words is a new idea for Grade 1
