Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Practise meal words (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack), everyday food and drinks, and words for how eating feels (hungry, full, delicious).

What's in the worksheet

4 matching rounds of 4 pairs each - Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack with their meanings - Food: rice, egg, soup, fruit with their meanings - Drinks: water, milk, juice, tea with their meanings - hungry, full, delicious and share with their meanings

How to use it in class

Use just before or after lunch so children can use the words in the canteen; about 4 minutes. - Play in teams and have children say a short sentence for each pair, e.g. I am hungry - In round 1, ask which meal is eaten at school (lunch) - In round 4, mime rubbing a hungry tummy versus a full one - Play it linked to the class to record results in the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Round 1: lunch and dinner get swapped by children unsure which is midday - Round 4: hungry and full are opposites and may be swapped - Round 2: soup glossed as แกงจืด may raise questions about what tom yum is called
