Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Read words and sort them: fruit vs vegetables, land vs water animals, place words vs time words, and yes/no questions vs questions that need an explanation (indicator ต 1.1 ป.2/2).

What's in the worksheet

4 questions, sorting 4 items into 2 groups - mango, banana are fruit; carrot, tomato are vegetables - dog, cat live on land; fish, shark live in water - Is it big? and Can you swim? take yes or no; How big is it? needs an explanation - under, on say where; morning, night say when

How to use it in class

Play in teams as a 5-minute review at the start of class. For Q3, have teams actually answer each question aloud first: if yes or no is enough, it goes in the first group. - For Q4, put an object on and under a real desk - If tomato causes trouble, tell them this lesson counts tomato as a vegetable - Play it linked to your class and the scores go into the gradebook

Common sticking points

- tomato: some children know it is botanically a fruit and drag it there. Accept the reasoning, then explain it counts as a vegetable in cooking - shark: an unfamiliar word, so children guess. Tell them it means ปลาฉลาม - Where do you swim? (Q3): dragged to yes/no because it shares swim with Can you swim? Teach them to look at the first word
