Game teaching guide

What children will practise

Sort animals by features: mammals vs birds, land vs water, herbivores vs carnivores, and pets vs wild animals, using mammal, herbivore and carnivore (indicator ต 1.1 ป.4/2).

What's in the worksheet

4 questions, sorting into 2 groups - dog, cat are mammals; bird, chicken are birds - elephant, tiger live on land; fish, dolphin in water - cow, rabbit are herbivores; lion, tiger are carnivores - cat, goldfish can be kept at home; bear, wolf live in the wild

How to use it in class

Link it to science on classifying animals, about 5 minutes, in teams. Before Q1 and Q3, teach mammal, herbivore and carnivore with pictures. - In Q2, dolphins live in water but breathe with lungs; use it as a thinking question afterwards - After the game, each team adds one more animal to each group - Play it linked to your class so scores go into the gradebook

Common sticking points

- chicken (Q1): hesitation because bird suggests flying. Explain chickens are birds too - herbivore and carnivore (Q3) get swapped as both are new and long. A simple hook: herb means plants - dolphin (Q2): children who know dolphins are mammals may hesitate, but this question sorts by habitat
