What children will practise

Practise irregular verbs in pattern groups: vowel to a (sing sang), -ought/-aught (buy bought), no change (put, cut), plus the meanings of choose, build, break and lose (ต 1.2 ป.5/1).

What's in the worksheet

4 matching questions, 4 pairs each - Match begin to began and ring to rang - Match buy, bring, teach and catch to bought, brought, taught and caught - Match put, let, hit and cut to the same word - Match lose to ทำหาย and break to ทำแตก

How to use it in class

Use after the first irregular-verbs set, 5 minutes in solo mode. - Before item 2, write ought and aught on the board and let pupils guess which verbs take which - Item 3 is easy and gives pupils who struggled on item 2 a breather - Close with each pupil writing one past sentence with bought or caught Play it linked to a class and the results go into the mark book. - Use Thai mode: English mode repeats both sides in some questions, so children can match without reading the meaning

Common sticking points

- Item 2: swapping bought and brought, which differ by one r; say buy bought, bring brought slowly - Item 2: swapping taught and caught; check the first letter, t or c - Item 4: mixing lose and choose, which are spelled alike
