What children will practise

Practise countries, nationalities, languages and capitals (Japan, Japanese, Tokyo) and the words travel, culture, festival and tradition, noticing that proper nouns take a capital letter, unlike Thai (ต 2.2 ป.6/1).

What's in the worksheet

4 matching questions, 4 pairs each - Match China to Chinese and France to French - Match Japan to Tokyo and England to London - Match Germany to German and Spain to Spanish - Match festival to เทศกาล and tradition to ประเพณี

How to use it in class

Use in a countries-of-the-world unit, 5 minutes in team mode. - Show a world map on the projector and point to each country after its item - After item 1, have pupils notice the endings -ese, -ish and -an - After item 4, pupils describe a Thai festival: Songkran is a Thai festival. Play it linked to a class and the results go into the mark book.

Common sticking points

- Item 1: swapping Chinese and Japanese, both ending in -ese - Item 3: mismatching Germany when the language name can't be guessed - Item 4: swapping festival and tradition, since many Thai events are both
